WFFA Cup 2026

Expressions of Interest – National Interstate Competition

Walking Football in Australia is entering an important new phase.

The Inaugural WFFA Cup, National State & Territory Walking Football Championships will be held in Sydney on 10–11 October 2026, convened by Walking Football Federation Australia (WFFA) and hosted by Walking Football NSW (WFNSW).

Expressions of Interest are now opening as part of the formal national process.

Overview

The WFFA Cup is Australia’s first formal State and Territory Championship for Walking Football.

It has been created to:

  • Establish a transparent national championship framework
  • Strengthen cooperation and competition between states and territories
  • Align Australian competition with international standards
  • Provide transparent and fair player representative pathways
  • Support consideration for future Foreveroos squads

This is not a club tournament. It is a representative championship designed to bring together the best of each state and territory under national standards.

As participation in Walking Football continues to grow across Australia, governance and national structure must evolve thoughtfully, strategically and collaboratively. The WFFA Cup represents that next step.

Tournament Details

Venue: Cromer Park, Sydney
Dates: 10–11 October 2026
Format: Two-day championship

Six age and gender categories will be contested:

  • Women 40+

  • Women 60+
  • Men 70+

Each category will be contested independently, with champions bestowed in every division, as well as an overall Australian Champion state or territory.

National Selection Pathway

All players competing in the WFFA Cup will be observed within the national framework.

Participation provides visibility within the broader pathway toward potential selection in future Foreveroos squads. Age eligibility and player information will be formally recorded, ensuring fair and accurate assessment across categories.

Importantly:

  • Playing in a younger age group will not disadvantage any player
  • All players will be observed
  • Matches may be recorded for review and assessment

State Body Information

Documentation outlining tournament requirements is currently being sent for expression of interest by state and territory bodies.

Each state or territory will coordinate its own team selection process. WFFA will provide governance guidance, while selection and squad management remain the responsibility of each state and territory.
