Australian Walking Football Teams

foreveroos

Foreveroos

The Foreveroos are Australia’s national representative Walking Football squads, proudly competing on the world stage. Following the announcement of the Walking Football World Nations Cup by the UK-based international governing body, the Federation of International Walking Football Associations (FIWFA) in 2019, Australia became part of the international Walking Football movement from the very beginning, with Walking Football Federation Australia (WFFA) recognised as one of FIWFA’s six foundation member associations. While COVID delayed the inaugural tournament until August 2023, Australia proudly sent teams to compete at the home of England’s national teams, the prestigious St George’s Park. Building on that foundation, the Foreveroos achieved significant success at the 2025 World Nations Cup, with strong performances across both men’s and women’s divisions—highlighting the depth, growth, and inclusivity of Walking Football in Australia. The squad name, Foreveroos, perfectly captures the spirit of Australian players determined to compete at the highest level and play Walking Football forever.

Exiles Terra Australis

The Association of Walking Football Australia (AWFA), based in Western Australia, provides members with opportunities to participate in Walking Football events both across Australia and internationally. Western Australia’s close proximity to Asia presents unique opportunities for regular international competition, allowing players to take part in home-and-away fixtures and tournaments throughout the Asia Pacific region.

In September 2023, AWFA entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with N9 Walking Football Club (Seremban, Malaysia) to collaborate on the development of the Asia Pacific Walking Football Cup (APWFC). The APWFC is a premier international tournament promoting fun, fitness, friendship, and inclusive competition across all age groups. Following successful tournaments in Malaysia (2023) and Perth (2024), the 2025 event was held in Bali, Indonesia, featuring teams from Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Indonesia. The tournament continues to strengthen cultural connections across the region while showcasing Walking Football as an accessible, community-driven sport that brings people together through shared enjoyment of the game.

Walkaroos

The Walkaroos are Australian representative Walking Football teams that compete in international tournaments organised by the International Walking Football Federation (IWFF). Established in 2019, the Walkaroos were one of fourteen international teams invited to compete at the inaugural IWFF Walking Football World Championship held in London in June 2019. Since then, Walkaroos teams have participated in international tournaments in Florence, Italy (2022), Cardiff, Wales (2023), Chesterfield, England (2024), and Sweden (2025). In May 2026, Brisbane is scheduled to host an IWFF tournament, expanding competition to ten divisions across men’s and women’s age groups, providing further opportunities for Australian players to represent their country on the international stage.

Walkeroos Seventies

Walkeroos Seventies

The Walkeroos Over 70s represent Australia’s most senior age group in Walking Football, bringing together players in their seventies from across the country who continue to actively participate in the game. Supported by the Australian Walking Football Seventies (AWFS)—an unincorporated, volunteer-run group—the program identifies, unites, and supports players who embody the values of Walking Football. The Walkeroos Over 70s have competed at all international events attended by Australian Walking Football teams and regularly play in national and state tournaments across Australia. Beyond competition, the program promotes ageing well by keeping players physically active, socially connected, and mentally engaged, while challenging traditional perceptions of ageing and demonstrating that sport, teamwork, and high-level competition can remain a vibrant part of life well into the seventies and beyond.

Currently there is no financial support for players from Australian sports associations or entities to attend any international Walking Football tournaments, so please be mindful that all players are self-funded. Some additional funds are raised through sponsorships, fundraisers and local grants to assist with the financial burden.
